Mr Charles East was elected as Chairman of the FPS UK committee.
There was a significant prominence given to Facial Plastic Surgery at the Tri-annual British Academic Conference in Otolaryngology held in Liverpool. Several members chaired sessions, and served as panel members leading discussions and answering questions from delegates. Topics included "Pitfalls in Reduction Rhinoplasty", "Otoplasty", "Training in Facial Plastic Surgery" and "Setting up a Facial Surgery Practice". A big thank you to all who contributed.
Five of our members have just returned from a very successful course in Facial Plastic Surgery in Hong Kong. They acted as faculty to supplement local expertise in providing high quality teaching aimed mostly at the ENT Higher Trainees. The course was very well attended, with local specialists and nurses supplementing a full cohort of trainees. The course consisted of lectures for 2 days, followed by fresh frozen cadaver dissection under supervision by the trainees. The rest of the participants were treated to operative demonstrations on fresh frozen cadavers via a high quality video link.
FPS-UK has been asked to help with the design and delivery of the first Facial Plastic Surgery Course to be held in Hong Kong aimed at teaching the local ENT Higher Trainees and helping them prepare for their specialist exams. They will specifically be examined in Facial Plastic Surgery from 2010. For the examination, our Chairman will be acting as external examiner via the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
